Terms & Conditions

Vehicles supplied will be same or similar to those advertised and booked – we cannot guarantee exact make and model.

Please make sure that the vehicle you book is large enough for passengers and luggage.

HAPPY CAR HIRE work on a minimum 3-day rental period. A surcharge of € 25 is applied for days 1 and 2 over and above our standard daily rate.

Our rates are per 24-hour period – i.e. if you collect the vehicle at 10am it must be returned no later than 10am on your return date.

Should the vehicle be returned later than agreed the HIRER will be charged a minimum of 2 hours up to a FULL DAY’S rental unless this has been pre-arranged.

When picking the car up, the main driver and any additional drivers will need to provide a valid driving license in their name.

All drivers must have held their driving license for at least 3 years.

An International Driving License is required if the original driving license is printed with non-Roman Alphabet.




Drivers must be over 23 years of age and have held a valid driving license for minimum 3 years.  Drivers between the ages of 21-23, having held their licence for minimum of 3 years will incur an additional charge of €7.50 per day and an extra deposit of €500 over and above applicable excess guarantee.

Drivers over the age of 74  must pay an additional amount of €7.50 per day and an extra deposit of €500 over and above applicable excess guarantee.

Authorized drivers of HAPPY CAR HIRE vehicles are covered by law with Cyprus Hire Risks Pool for 3rd Party liability against death, injury, and property. The coverage is subject to General Terms of the Insurance company.

  • Insurance does not cover driver injuries / death.
  • We offer 3 Levels of insurance on all our Vehicles.
  • Basic Insurance is included in the stated daily price of the vehicle.
  • We also offer a Silver and Gold Upgrade package. Details of all insurance packages is below.

• Top up your rental car with our Gold Insurance package for only €9 euros per day.

This Package includes (interior and exterior damages, Tyres, Windscreen, Minor Underbody, Windows and Side Mirrors and Collision Damages)

Excess – €100
• The excess of the Gold Insurance Package for all car groups is €100 Euros.

Not Covered (Loss of fuel, Key Fobs, Damage to rim of Tyre, Severe Underbody Damage)

PLEASE TAKE NOTE – There are insurance limitations whereby full insurance protection becomes invalid and that unexpected damages caused by negligent/careless driving are NOT covered by the full insurance protection. For example –

  • Damage to vehicle in car parks, hotel car parks etc.
  • Negligent / Careless driving of the vehicle
  • Reversing into a wall / pillar / tree / stationery object etc.
  • Damage to front/back bumper/ side skirts due to high kerbs / speed bumps.
  • Damage to vehicle while driving on unpaved road / trail / off road.
  • Damage to upholstery / baby seats / car interior.
  • Damage to car keys / fobs – these are chip coded and expensive to replace.
  • Damage to engine / mechanical parts due to driver negligence or abuse.

In this instance the hirer will be responsible to pay the following maximum amount dependant on damage:

• Group A and B €600 Euros
• Group C, D and E €800 Euros
• Group F and L €1000 Euros


Excess Liability is the amount determined by the car rental supplier for which you can be held liable in case of damage/theft of the vehicle.  The excess varies dependant on vehicle group/type.

The HIRER will be liable for full repair costs to the rental vehicle as well as any other vehicle/s involved should:

  1. Anyone else other than the HIRER/NAMED DRIVER be driving at the time.
  2. If the accident was caused in violation to any traffic laws.
  3. If driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.
  4. The vehicle was driven on unsuitable roads i.e., dirt tracks.
  5. Damage to the vehicle is caused by the drivers negligent / careless driving.

Failure to notify HAPPY CAR HIRE immediately of any incident whereby the vehicle is damaged will void the insurance and the HIRER will become responsible for all costs.

In the event of an accident the vehicle is NOT TO BE MOVED unless instructed to do so by a police officer.

Our fuel policy is SAME TO SAME.

In the event of any fuel missing from the tank upon return, the company will invoice the missing fuel. A penalty of €50 will be applied.

Any additional services will be subject to any applicable sales taxes and location fees.

All traffic fines incurred will be the responsibility of the HIRER.

If you lose any of the equipment that you hired as extra at the counter you will be charged: – for baby seat €120, for child seat €120 and for GPS €120.


To make sure you understand the rules and laws about driving hired cars at home and abroad, it is essential you read the Terms & Conditions in full before you leave to pick your car up.

Please make sure you know what documents and other paperwork you must have with you (e.g., driving license, forms of identification, and payment cards) and what you will need to pay for at our car hire office.

By making a booking, you are confirming that you have read, understood, and accepted our Terms & Conditions.

Before you pick your car up, you will be required to provide further details to complete the contract. Please make sure you read it carefully – and if anything is not clear, discuss it with a member of our team.

If you run into any problems during your rental, call us immediately on the emergency phone number, which you will find at the top of your Rental Agreement.


In the unfortunate event of a breakdown, accident, or mechanical difficulties, you must call us immediately. For accidents, a police report, or an incident report from an authorized member of our staff will be required. If the above procedure is not followed, then all insurances become invalid. We give authority for repair or replacement of the damaged car. Please keep copies of all documentation you are asked to complete. This may be needed if you wish to make a claim.


For all airport bookings, it is MANDATORY to inform us of your arrival flight number as well as a mobile number including country dialling code.

If you do not, we cannot be held responsible if your plane is delayed and as a result your car is not available. Please ensure that you enter your flight number and not any other number the airline may have sent you, such as a confirmation number.


If you lose your key(s), you will be charged the cost of replacement and the loss of use.


Driver and passengers must always wear seatbelts.


Smoking is NOT permitted in the car. Should you disregard this you will be required to pay a valeting fee between €40 and €150, if the vehicle requires more than the usual standard cleaning, and for any reason other than smoking, to restore it to its pre-rental condition, allowing for fair wear and tear.


We are a pet friendly company, but we care about people with allergies too. Pet owners must equip themselves with all the necessary sanitary ware to avoid smells in the car, hair drop, make sure that the seats are not exposed to any dirt and ensure that the car is returned at its original condition. We reserve the right to charge for valeting and the right to deny the reservation depending on the size or the type of the pet. With the exception of service dogs helping a passenger with disabilities, all other dogs must be restrained, while driving for your pet’s safety and yours.


Prices are based on the pick-up and drop-off times and dates that you agree before your rental starts. If you pick the car up any later or bring it back any earlier, you will not receive a refund for unused time.  Our rates are for a 24-hour period so if you collect your car at 10am it is to be returned no later than 10am on return day unless prior arrangements have been made.  There is a charge for late returns.


Drink driving is not permitted at any time in any vehicle if you do so a penalty of €1000 will be immediately taken and the Contract between HAPPY Car Hire and the HIRER will immediately be terminated.

All vehicles belonging to HAPPY CAR HIRE are prohibited from crossing the border to the North/ Occupied side of Cyprus. The vehicle will NOT be covered by insurance and HAPPY CAR HIRE will be unable to assist you should there be any incident. Taking our vehicles across the border will incur a penalty of €3000.

Refunds will only be issued under extreme circumstances.

If cancelling your booking within the 7 days prior to rental start date, refunds will only be issued if proof is provided that the holiday has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.

Should the vehicle be returned earlier the HIRER is NOT entitled to a refund.

Cancellation charges applicable:

There is a mandatory 15% pre-payment payable on ALL online bookings.  Bookings made online can be paid in full if preferred.

You may cancel your booking at any time, an admin fee (15% of the total rental) is applicable if the cancellation is within 7 days of the arranged rental start date.
